As part of my schoolwork, I also work as a pre-licensed therapist in Santa Barbara — a Registered Psychological Associate practicing under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Bacon. You can learn more about that work at his site. https://www.drstephenbacon.com/?page_id=512

Hi, thanks for dropping by. I’m Vic, a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology, on my way to get my PsyD. A lot of my life, I felt like I didn’t quite fit in. I’d say the wrong thing, point out the thing that everyone was avoiding speaking about, be socially awkward in new situations, and generally be a little bit “odd.” Over time, I’ve realized that I’m most certainly, definitely, neurospicy. In some ways, I was the Android phone in an iPhone world, if you will - able to get the job done, but having to do it my own way. In other ways, I was the one the algorithm couldn’t figure out - like all the content didn’t seem to quite fit for me.

That feeling of being different, odd, and weird led me to explore a lot of different things in my life, one of which is psychology. Initially, I was going to go into psychology after I retired from the corporate world. But, after a long period of burnout, it was time to leave the corporate gig and work on psychology now. Part of my work has been working on myself and learning more about how human brains work.

My dissertation for my PsyD looks into how we can use tabletop role-playing games to help late-diagnosed and self-identifying autistic women feel more like themselves. I lean heavily on creative, imaginal, and psychodynamic frameworks, including drama therapy, narrative therapy, and Jungian psychology. It feels important to bring creativity and fun into my work.

Over time, I’ll be sharing a bit of my journey, as well as some of the work from my dissertation, with you. I may also share my thoughts on what I’m reading and learning in case it’s of interest to you.
